Our challenge was to drive a clapped-out Citroen 2CV, over 8,000+ miles from London to Ulaan Baatar and back to raise money for a charity called 'Send a Cow'.
The Mongol Rally is one of those 'once-in-a-lifetime-opportunities' that we felt we could not miss. An almost ludicrously mad adventure that cannot fail to provide us with some incredible challenges along the way, such as needlessly waiting in a queue for 12 hours just to cross the border into and out of Russia, or trying to fix a broken axle on our car with no mechanical knowledge between the two of us, or the endless excitement of trying to sleep bolt upright in the car over rough terrain, as there won't be anywhere else to sleep on route and most chillingly of all, we'll let you know how to deal with gun toting bandits in Kyrgyzstan.
One thing is for sure, we hope to be able to raise, with your help, as much money as possible for the 'Send a Cow' charity and get back in one piece.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
(1) Sponsor us over the whole journey or by the mile!
(2) Donate online through 'Gift Aid' on our pages at 'JustGiving'
(3) Donate second hand items that you don't want anymore to our 'Car Boot Sale' trips
(4) Donate books for our 'Book Stall' table
(5) Donate new things that you don't want anymore, or your time or services for our 'Auction Evening' on the 2nd July
(6) Buy our raffle tickets and win some fabulous prizes
(7) Donate your old mobile phones, which we can then sell for re-cycling
(8) Buy tickets to our Farewell Party and enjoy great tasting food, live music, great company, win prizes and even take part in racing 'mechanical sheep'!
(9) And if you're really bold, offer to try and fill one of our 'Send a Cow' charity tins by having it on your desk at work
To remain very much alive and still be on speaking terms with each other by the time we get back.
